It is the Floating city of Venice that gave its name to Venetian Terrazzo, also called ‘Venetian flooring’. Although the technique can be traced back to primordial civilizations, Venice is the place where the technique and craft developed and flourished.
Despite its modern origins in Italy, terrazzo flooring is now extensively utilized domestically and internationally. Terrazzo has been used in the United States as early as the late 18th century. The American terrazzo industry benefited from the Art Deco movement's popularity in the 1920s and 1930s.
