I am Juan Carlos Hernandez, founder of Terrazzo Specialist, built on a simple belief: traditional in-situ terrazzo should not be limited to large commercial projects. Homeowners, designers, artists, and small businesses deserve access to the same timeless beauty and durability of poured-in-place terrazzo, regardless of a project's size or scope.

My journey in terrazzo began more than a decade ago as a union terrazzo worker. Under the guidance of experienced craftsmen, I learned every aspect of the trade, from mixing and placing terrazzo to grinding and polishing finished surfaces. Through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to quality, I advanced to become a foreman for one of the industry's leading terrazzo contractors.

Over the years, I helped manage major commercial projects, including hospitals, transportation facilities, and the LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC). These projects demanded the highest standards of precision, craftsmanship, and professionalism, shaping the approach I bring to every job today. Managing large-scale work taught me the importance of attention to detail, accountability, and delivering quality under demanding schedules.

In November 2021, I founded Terrazzo Specialist to focus on a niche often overlooked within the industry: custom terrazzo installations for residential, artistic, and boutique commercial spaces. Since then, we have collaborated with architects, designers, artists, and homeowners to create distinctive floors, countertops, shower surrounds, feature walls, and custom terrazzo elements throughout Southern California and beyond.

Since our founding, Terrazzo Specialist has experienced steady growth. What began as a small specialty contractor serving local clients has evolved into a company performing work throughout the surrounding region and on projects beyond state lines. We have established ourselves as a signatory union contractor, successfully completed public works, commercial, and private-sector projects, and expanded our capabilities to take on increasingly larger and more complex installations.

Yet, despite that growth, we have remained committed to the original vision that inspired the company. While many contractors focus exclusively on large-scale work as they expand, we continue to welcome the smaller custom projects that first sparked the creation of Terrazzo Specialist. Whether it's a residential countertop, a boutique retail floor, an artist's installation, or a large commercial project, we believe every client deserves the same level of craftsmanship, service, and attention to detail.

While we are grateful for the recognition our work has received, the greatest reward comes from helping clients transform their vision into a lasting piece of craftsmanship. Every project is approached with the same care, pride, and dedication to quality that have guided my career from the beginning.

Today, I remain actively involved in every project, overseeing each phase from planning through completion. For me, terrazzo is more than a building material. It is a craft, a tradition, and a legacy. Whether preserving historic terrazzo, installing a custom residential feature, or delivering a large-scale public works project, my goal remains the same: to create enduring work that honors the craftsmanship of the past while meeting the needs of the future.
